Eyes Wide Shut, 2020

The work evokes a veiled face, leaving only the eyes exposed at its center. The outer “bark” forms a delicate, labor-intensive texture resembling lace. A pair of eyes is projected onto the surface, opening and closing alternately; each time they open, their color changes. The eyes thus appear to gaze outward through the covering. The video holds in tension the desire for intimacy and concealment with the experience of exposure.
