And The Dreams So Rich In Color, 2020

In the video work And the Dreams So Rich in Color, I mark a place, an event, and a life that once existed. At the center of the work is a pastoral still image of a seaside resort, yet the sense of abandonment surrounding it offers the first indication of what may have occurred. The image resembles a holiday snapshot, a remnant of a private moment and a place that has been lost. The sound work is composed of mysterious, enigmatic tones that gradually develop into something threatening or unsettling, while remaining open to interpretation. Suddenly, the delicate voice of a young child emerges, reading the final paragraph of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. The novel follows a father and son travelling alone through a scorched, post-apocalyptic America. Their journey is also a shared coming-of-age story, shaped by an inevitable process of separation. The book was one of the sources of inspiration for the work. The concealed yet present voice of the child, my son, adds another layer through which the work may be interpreted.
