In the DIY series, which I have been developing since 2019, I create installations and objects primarily but not only from IKEA products scented candles, wooden trestles, doormats, funnels, and other industrially manufactured objects. I remove these objects from their original context and function and reassemble them into sculptural systems that can be dismantled and returned to their basic components once the exhibition ends. This process allows me to explore tensions between West and East, the private and the public, and labor-intensive handwork and industrial mass production. Through it, I also examine the symbolic charge of consumer products that have become icons of Western culture.
The installation Fountain is composed of hundreds of light-blue plastic funnels that evoke the movement of flowing water and create an image of endless circulation.
