The work is composed of approximately 1,000 freezer bags intended for storing breast milk, woven side by side onto 14 aluminum hoops. The semi-transparent object is suspended from the ceiling and extends down to the floor. Formally, the ring-based structure sets the circular axis embodied within it against the linear axis of life. It carries meanings and associations that allude to the cycle of life, to recurrence in nature, and to issues of recycling and the reuse of materials concerns whose urgency and importance have become especially pronounced in the twenty-first century. The work also alludes to Marcel Duchamp’s Bottle Rack, which transformed a functional object for drying milk bottles into a conceptual sculpture.
